How can I download my registered copies of McAfee software?

McAfee, and many other software vendors, have a special area on their ftp site that is reserved for registered customers. It is from this area that customers can download the latest update to their product. To restrict this area to just McAfee customers, McAfee provides you a special user ID. You can set up a Site Entry in eFTP Explorer to log you into this special area using your user ID.

First, you need to identfiy your user ID and password. If you normally go to the McAfee ftp site using your web browser, then you probably enter a URL similar to the one below:

"ftp://name:password@ftp.mcafee.com/licensed/antivirus/english/win95/"

Your user ID is the first word before the colon ("name" in above example). Your password is the word following the colon ("password" in above example). "ftp.mcafee.com" is the site name, and "/licensed/antivirus/english/win95/" is the default directory. Using the example above, here is what the site entry would look like in eFTP Explorer:

Remember that the Default Directory, Login, and Password fields are case-sensitive. While not required, usually these items will be defined in lower-case.
